“American Idol” runner-up La’Porsha Renae took the nation by storm during the show’s fifteenth and final season, though many were left disappointed when she finished in second place.

However, she didn’t leave the show empty-handed; the 23-year-old songbird signed to 19 Recordings/Motown Records, where she is expected to release her debut album later in the year. Shortly after scoring the record deal, her song “Battles” was selected as the theme song for the USA Gymnastics women’s team during the Rio Olympics.

La’Porsha now debuts her first official solo single “Good Woman,” produced by Harmony Samuels and Edgar Etienne.

“A lot of fans have been requesting that in-your-face song, a sense of feeling empowered,” she tells Billboard. “And ‘Good Woman’ is that: a relatable song celebrating the good woman. I’m also really proud of the third verse, which I wrote.”

The song feels triumphant, showcasing La’Porsha’s grungy tone, powerful register and swift runs. She sings, “You pay a couple bills, make a couple meals, make my body feel good half the time / I can’t make you love me right, make you realize what’s right in front of your eyes.”

We’re excited to see what’s to come. What do you think of “Good Woman” by La’Porsha?
