The Honesty Hour Music news and pop culture shenanigans. Tue, 29 Jul 2014 13:28:52 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga Reveal ‘Cheek to Cheek’ Release Date Tue, 29 Jul 2014 13:28:52 +0000 Following the premiere of their new single “Anything Goes,” jazz legend Tony Bennett and pop goddess Lady Gaga announce the release date for their collaborative album, Cheek to Cheek.

Arriving on Tuesday, September 23 via Streamline, Columbia and Interscope Records, Cheek to Cheek is comprised of jazz standards sung by Tony and Gaga, including “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing),” “Sophisticated Lady,” “Lush Life,” and the album’s title track.

Trumpeter Brian Newman, a friend of Lady Gaga, appears on the album with his jazz quintet, as well as tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano and flutist Paul Horn.

Cheek to Cheek came out of a very organic friendship and relationship that Tony and I have built over the years and it truly was a collaborative effort,” said Lady Gaga in a statement. “It was important to Tony that this was a jazz record. I’ve been singing jazz since I was a child and really wanted to show the authentic side of the genre. We made an album of jazz classics, but it has a modern twist.”

Mr. Bennett added, “I have been singing the Great American Songbook my entire career and all along forging a bridge between pop and jazz music.  Creating this album with Lady Gaga has been a beautiful experience as she is a fantastic singer and I am hoping that all her fans will embrace this music and swing along with it.”

Earlier this week, the duo filmed a concert special set to broadcast on PBS in the fall.

Music Video: Hilary Duff – ‘Chasing the Sun’ Tue, 29 Jul 2014 05:04:50 +0000 Hilary Duff premieres her long-awaited single “Chasing the Sun,” the first track off her upcoming fifth album.

The songbird also releases the accompanying music video for the track, marking a smooth start to her new venture with RCA Records.

While fun and laidback, “Chasing the Sun” sounds a little simple and underwhelming. It’s definitely too early to predict how the single will fare commercially, but hopefully it gives her a successful comeback.

Teyana Taylor Plots October Release for Debut Album Sun, 27 Jul 2014 22:45:22 +0000 The date is set. Teyana Taylor announces that her debut album, titled VII, will be released on October 21st.

Arriving by way of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label and Def Jam, the album is preceded by the lead single “Maybe” featuring Pusha T and Yo Gotti. (The music video for “Maybe” is expected to be released soon.)

Ms. Taylor signed with G.O.O.D. Music in 2012 and appears on the group’s Cruel Summer compilation album released in fall of the same year. In addition, she’s released two mixtapes including her acclaimed The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor in early 2012.

Although “Maybe” has not performed well commercially, I think that Teyana definitely has both the talent and time to turn things around. Hopefully we can hear more new music soon and see a few live television performances.

Next month, Teyana joins fellow R&B singer August Alsina on his 20-date Testimony Live tour, kicking off in Seattle, WA on August 14.

Are you looking forward to VII?

The message accompanied a new photo of the rapper scantily clad in the same g-string ensemble she wore on the single cover.

Lady Gaga hits the recording studio; July 24, 2014

On Thursday, Mother Monster shared photos on Instagram from inside of a recording studio with the captions “Studio Rattin’ with the Bennett Boys” and “It’s a Standard night #CheekToCheek.”

She also wrote “Dance with me, I want my arm about you” in another photo caption, which we guess may be lyrics to a song on the album.

While her last album ARTPOP did not completely do it for me, I’m looking forward to Cheek to Cheek because Gaga’s a great jazz singer.

Be sure to tune in to Today this Tuesday between 7:00 and 9:00 a.m. EST.

Keyshia Cole Reveals ‘Point of No Return’ Album Cover Sat, 26 Jul 2014 00:40:07 +0000 Although we don’t know the release date of Keyshia Cole’s sixth album Point of No Return just yet, the songstress unveiled the official cover to assure fans that it’s on the way.

The album is preceded by the singles “Next Time (Won’t Give My Heart Away),” the Juicy James-assisted “Rick James,” and most recently, “She.”

Released in 2012, Keyshia’s last effort Woman to Woman has sold approximately 355,000 copies in the United States to date. Hopefully her current tour, aptly named after Point of No Return, will foster stronger commercial performance for the new release.

New Music: Nick Jonas – ‘Chains’ Fri, 25 Jul 2014 23:56:02 +0000 Nick Jonas premieres “Chains,” the lead single from his sophomore solo album. The highly-anticipated LP is slated for release later in the year via Island Records.

“You got me in chains, you got me in chains for your love,” Nick croons over the R&B-flavored beat produced by Jason Evigan. ” But I wouldn’t change/ No, I wouldn’t change this love.”

From the vocals, arrangement and production, “Chains” is solid from start to finish. Once the record is sent to radio and is released on iTunes, I can easily see “Chains” being at least in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Meanwhile, the song’s music video will be released Wednesday, July 30.

Nicki Minaj Bares All for ‘Anaconda’ Single Cover Thu, 24 Jul 2014 17:13:39 +0000 Nicki Minaj knows how to keep us talking. The provocative rapper just unveiled the less-than-modest artwork for her upcoming single “Anaconda.” Children, cover your eyes.

Arriving July 28, the song will likely appear on the fall release of Minaj’s third album The Pink Print.

While I know that her latest single “Pills N Potions” did not perform as well as expected, peaking at No. 24 on the Billboard Hot 100, this artwork may give Nicki just the attention she’s looking for.
